In the food and fish industries, most factories use roller conveyors to transport products in an assembly line. When the line has to change direction, there must be a device, which can effect this change of direction. On the market, there are many types of device which can effect this change of direction on a roller conveyor. However, the need from the industry is to have a device which can effect exact movements at a low price. The food and the fish handling industries in particular demand a low cost device, which can replace many human lifts. The problem with the existing systems is that they are mostly of a complex design and so have a high price. The main idea is to transfer a forward and backward linear movement from a cylinder to a rotating movement with firm positions. The rotation need not return, but can continue endlessly in the same rotation direction. The principle is to use a camcurve, which transfers the linear movement of the cylinder to a rotation. Two steer pins, running in a camcurve, move the movable part in the device according to the shape of the camcurve. The shape of the camcurve can be varied to get different performances in acceleration, retardation, or angle of the rotation. The cylinder, which executes the linear movement, is integrated into the device. The device, made of stainless steel can: move up and down by up to 100 mm; turn through up to 360 degrees; has a lifting force of up to 500 kg (sizes for heavy loads are under development); has a turning force of up to 40 NM; and has a speed of about 20 cycles/minute. The main benefits are: a cost reduction of about 70% (to about 600 ECU); lift and turn functions in one device; execution of advanced rotations without a need to reverse; and is protected from external influences.
