Reinforced sliding doors to protect against theft and vandalism for combined Rail-road transport boxes

Objective

The 13,600 m rail/road swap bodies are currently either rigid box types or open swap bodies with flexible curtain-sides made of plastic tarpaulin (FCS). In the latter case, the plastic curtain sides are relatively fragile and thus prevent the swap bodies from being transported on TIR and are vulnerable to thefts and vandalism. The first idea of the partners having participated in the first stage of the project (exploratory study) was to replace these PSC by rigid sliding side doors. This solution is still under consideration because it can offer increased security to the users. However, the feasibility study carried out by the CRIF (Industrial scientific and technical research centre) showed that a flexible solution is all the more interesting since it provides a second research possibility using lighter materials, thereby making it easier to handle by drivers and/or packers at goods transport companies. The prototypes which will be produced give the possibility, according to this research, to put a product on the market which will offer an additional solution to the problem raised by this type of intermodal transport unit (ITU) in the combined transport process.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
