Expert System diagnostic tool for enamel defects

An expert system (ADCIE) has been developed as a diagnostic tool for identifying enamel defects and providing remedial solutions. The Expert System was constructed by making use of information generated in the investigative work of the project and by interviewing key, experienced personnel in the SME partner companies and in companies associated with the enamel industry. The expert system also includes information on good practice, e.g. quality control methods specific to the processing of enamelled cast iron. The system can also be used as a training tool for experienced and non-experienced enamellers. There is still some development work required on the system to provide accurate predictive analysis for developing new enamels and products and to integrate the Expert system into the quality control and production systems of the SMEs.
