Obiettivo
The model maker faces the daily problem of choosing the right material and manufacturing method for each new prototype. In this work the model maker is alone in his decision making. When making a new quotation the risk is very high for the model maker - the penalties if being not successful may exceed the turnover for the whole company. In order to cope with this situation a Prototyping Selector is necessary? however such a tool is not available on the market. The objective of the project is the development of a tool - the Prototyping Selector - that will support all those companies using or manufacturing prototypes of various kinds. A new approach will be used. The Prototyping Selector provides easy access to latest scientific and technical knowledge, including new material properties related to the manufacturing method used. The indata will be examined by experienced model makers and model users thus securing their relevance. A formal description of material properties of prototypes will be designed based on the experience of more than 50 companies from various sectors also selecting the 100 most popular prototype materials and methods The Prototyping Selector is especially aimed at SMEs with limited research capability and will also be designed for those with limited experience from using computers. This tool will assist the model maker in providing rapid and professional answers to what prototype material and manufacturing method to use. This can be used for quick responses on customer request. Furthermore the Prototyping Selector will cut down the cost of manufacturing prototypes and at the same time improve the quality and thus the small model maker will become more competitive. The research methodology used includes an analysis of requirements on prototypes. This information together with the latest information on material properties will be used when mapping user requirements on prototypes in order to find the best manufacturing method. A functional software prototype will be developed an evaluated within the frames of the CRAFT-project. 12 month after the completion of the project a m.arketable product will be released.
