INNOVATIVE ONLINE MONITORING AND TARGETTING OF ENERGY AND HW IN SUPERMARKETS AIMED AT REDUCED CONSUMPTIONS

Ziel

To reduce energy and water consumptions within buildings by up to 10% by employing an On-Line Monitoring and Targeting System. It will bring together existing Building Energy Management technology, Dynamic computer simulation and Expert Systems, which will vastly improve our capability to detect, report and correct energy waste. When applied to all Sainsburys supermarkets the aim is to achieve a reduction of 43,000,000 kWh (3452 TOE) with cost savings of UKL 1.7 million (2.43 million ECU) per annum. The project will represent one of several environmental initiatives undertaken by Sainsburys who are both well known for an committed to issues which preserve the environment.
Feedback from the first stores commissioned indicate savings on the order of 5% of electricity usage. BSRIA independent report is included with these documents. Dr Columbo has been supplied with disks containing the new data collected from stores for analysis. Store Energy Managers (Deputy Managers, services) have had their duties defined under the Thermie programme and are co-operating in the actioning and reporting on Thermie energy exception reports. Added value of the Thermie project has been identified in terms of :
- utilising Thermie data for a more accurate budgeting tool.
- Definition of the precise equipment fit-out in each store.
- the ability to quickly measure the impact on energy usage of new designs or working practices.
The project aims to reduce energy consumption within buildings by up to 10%. The method is based upon installing multiple meters for the automatic transmission of data on consumptions of electricity, gas, oil and water from all Sainsburys supermarkets. The data will be transmistted via on-line Building Energy Management Systems to a central monitoring and targeting unit. The targeting system will rely on dynamic simulation of consumption profiles for each utility (Electricity, Gas, and water). The project will decrease the average time to recognise and correct problems from 6-8 weeks to 1-2 days.
The innovatory aspects of the project include the use of advance modelling techniques for predictions of utility usage, an automatic system to identify when consumptions are outside targets, an expert system, to identify likely area of malfunction/mal-operation and to recommend means of correction or make the appropriate correction. The highly sophisticated exception handling and reporting of a massive quantity of site data, the use of additional sub-metering to ensure sufficient data is available and the use of energy profiles and not actual energy totals.
The system will operate throughout Sainsburys supermarkets providing rapid reports and recommendations to our Area Engineering staff in order to minimise energy waste. As the expert system grows it will also be able to carry out corrective action automatically via the Building Energy Management System.
There will be substantial energy and water savings which will result from analysis of immediately available accurate data. A modern supermarket is a major consumer of energy and water. The innovative on-line system would significantly reduce consumption; this is turn would provide environmental benefits with reduced emmissions in the air, reduced fossil fuel usage and the conservation of water resources. It is estimated that Sainsburys would achieve energy savings of 3542 TOE, with consequent reductions in emissions (80,000 tonnes of CO2, 215 tonnes SO2, 1000 tonnes NOx). These savings could be multiplied by 45 for other likely EC food retail applications or with a realistic technology adoption rate of 25% by a multiple of 11 or 12.
Monitoring of the system is critical when applied to the expert system.
Recommendations and corrective procedures of the system will continually have to be verified before automatic corrective action can be allowed to take place.
