Productivity improvements in industrial laser cutting

Objective

The objectives of the project are improving productivity of industrial laser cutting systems in general and in the participating laser cutting job shops especially.
Routines, manual as well as computer based, tools and education programmes and material have been developed and implemented in the SMEs production. The main objectives have been focused on the maintenance of the laser cutting systems, fast optimisation routines of the processing parameters, development of tools to ensure the quality in the production, fast and reliable diagnostics of the laser beam characteristics, better utilisation of the material and price estimation and finally education of the personnel operating and programming laser cutting systems. The implementation of the results at the SMEs has resulted in increased productivity as well as a better quality in their production.
The focus of the project is mainly on productivity improvements related to better education of operators, reduction of down-time on the production system by improved maintenance and improvements in system performance by efficient optimization of the laser cutting process. Furthermore improvements in productivity by increasing the effective cutting time and by reducing the scrap ratio will be addressed. Quality assurance in production will be addressed by improved laser beam diagnostics and by some tools for on-the-floor classication of laser cut samples. Finally improved operator education will be addressed.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
