This social science research project has generated research papers on Climate Change Convention and Kyoto Protocol

Summary: The objective of this project was to examine and strengthen the policy-making framework established by the 1992 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC) to ensure that its Conference of the Parties (COP), and subsidiary bodies, take fair and effective decisions to address climate change and its adverse effects in an expeditious manner. The specific objective is to contribute to enhancing the substantive content of COP decisions concerning the development of the next phase of commitments in the short to medium term as well as improving the process by which these commitments will be agreed and implemented over the longer term. Papers address the following core issues central to the fair and effective development of the climate regime; principles, fairness and burden-sharing; market based instruments; scientific, technical and expert input; decision-making procedures; review of implementation, compliance and enforcement and international synergies.
