The main result of this project is a guideline for sampling and analysis of tar and particles in biomass gasification producer gases which:
- Can be used for concentration ranges of organic contaminants in both raw and clean producer gases of all commonly applied biomass gasifiers.
- Is disseminated to and gains acceptance among the major European and North-American companies, institutes and universities that develop or commercialise biomass gasification technology.
- Is suitable for and has started standardisation to become an industrial standard.
The guideline consists of a description of necessary equipment and of procedures for sampling-, post-sampling- and analysis. The Guideline is aimed to measure organic contaminants from biomass gasifiers (updraft and downdraft fixed bed as well as atmospheric and pressurised fluidised bed gasifiers) at all relevant conditions (0-900°C and 0.9-60 bars) in both raw and cleaned fuel gases (concentration range of 1mg/mn³-100g/mn³).
The guideline also provides a measurement method for particles. Interactions between particles and organic contaminants ("tars") are important in the sampling-, post sampling- and analysis procedures of the guideline.
