Obiettivo
TO INCREASE UNDERSTANDING OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND OF THE MECHANISMS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DETERIORATION OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND MONUMENTS, AND TO HELP PROVIDE A SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION.
THE FOLLOWING STUDIES ARE INCLUDED:
1) STUDY OF MORPHOLOGY, SIZE AND ELEMENTAL CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF CARBONACEOUS PARTICLES DEPOSITED ON STONES.
2) DEFINITION OF MAIN BIOLOGICAL MECHANISMS CHARACTERIZING STONE WEATHERING IN PRE-INDUSTRIAL PERIODS.
3) A STUDY OF SANDSTONE WEATHERING TO DEFINE ROLE OF CONDENSATION, SURFACE ROUGHNESS, GASEOUS AND PARTICULATE POLLUTANTS.
4) INVESTIGATION OF SAMPLES EXHIBITING "BLACK" DECAY IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN EUROPE.
5)INTENSIVE STUDY OF DEPOSITION AND SURFACE MOISTURE ON VARIOUS TYPES OF STONE.
6) PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROCESSES DUE TO RAINFALL AND CONDENSATION.
7) MONUMENT MICROCLIMATOLOGY AND INTERFACE PROCESSES.
8) THE ROLE AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE RUN-OFF WATER LEACHING THE SURFACE OF MONUMENTS.
