Objetivo
Background :
Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is a severe respiratory disease of cattle
which causes high economic damage and has persisted in Europe for a long time. CBPP is caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp, mycoides sc variant and it is thought to be endemic in some areas of the Iberian peninsula and recent outbreaks have occurred in other European countries (France, Italy). The available serological diagnostic tests have a limited efficiency.
The objective of this project is to develop and evaluate new and improved tests for the isolation, identification and differentiation of the causative agent, through: i) the
development of a high quality antigen; ii) the development of new enzyme immunoassays based on monoclonal antibodies; iii) the evaluation of intradermal and gamma interferon tests for cell-mediated immunity; and, iv) the development of polymerase chain reactions tests.
Short description of the project :
The project will consist of the following tasks:
- Improvement and standardization of the complement fixation test for CBPP;
- Improvement of the media for transport and isolation of M. m mycoides SC;
- Improvement of the biochemical identification of M. m mycoides SC;
- Development of improved serological tests;
- Development of tests for cell mediated immunity;
- Development and improvement of polymerase chain reaction systems for the
detection of M. m mycoides SC;
- Development of molecular diagnostic systems based on 16S ribosomal transfer
RNA analysis;
- Evaluation of tests in experimentally and naturally infected cattle.
