Bioavailability of radionuclides in soils: role of biological components and resulting improvement of prediction models

Ziel

To improve our understanding of the mechanisms governing the transfer of radionuclides to plants, we will apprehend mainly the role of the biological elements (plants, mycorrhiza, microbes) involved in this transfer: radionuclides sorption/desorption in soils and radionuclides uptake/release by the plants. Because of the importance of the chemical nature of the involved radionuclides, we follow the bioavailability of four different radionuclides: caesium, strontium, technetium, and uranium. Exact role of additional pollutants will be scrutinised. To improve existing predictive models of radionuclides contamination of soils, we will incorporate knowledge acquired from the experimental results into 2 mechanistic models. Finally, we will extract from the experimental results some scientific bases for the development of bioremediation methods of radionuclides contaminated soils and apprehend the role of additional non-radioactive pollutants on radionuclide bioavailability.
