Ziel
The high-level objective is to create a network of the safety managers and experts of the plant licensees that are foreseen to operate the VVER-440 reactors within the European Union during the first decades of the next century. For this purpose, the specific features of the VVER'S in the Central European countries will be taken into account.
First, an overview on the approaches to two safety management areas with the perspectives in the near future: (1) Severe Accident Management (SAM) and (2) Plant Life Management (PLIM). The harmonization of the utility views is sought in order to obtain maximal benefits of the unified approaches. The primary objective is to define what are the needs for the additional information from the safety research, when developing a generic approach and the plant- specific approaches to the SAM and PLIM issues.
The proposed Concerted Action aims at contributing to the preconditions to operate the WER-440 reactors in the future European Union member countries. For this purpose, the specific features of the WER-440 plants in the Central European countries in respect to the already obtained high safety level will be taken into account.
The project starts with an overview on the comprehensive approaches to two safety management areas that are of concern for the near future, i.e. (1) Severe Accident Management (SAM) and (2) Plant Life Management (PLIM). The selection of the final approach for the individual plants has to be consistent with the plant-specific features and the national and utility requirements. The proposed project will define the utility views, what are the needs for the additional information from the safety research, when developing a generic approach and the plant-specific approaches to the SAM and PLIM issues.
