Local adjustment of Japaneses production systems in Europe

Ziel

To what extent does the long-term attractiveness of a region to Japanes investors depend on its ability to apply Japanese management methods? A review of the literature provides surprisingly few insights into how Japanese manufacturers undertake their locational adjustment.
This study will examine hypotheses on the locational adjustment of Japanese production systems in the European Union. The main hypothesis states that there is a relation between the 'Application-Adoption' problem of Japanese production systems and the 'Attraction-Persistence' problem within a region.
Managerial and geographical approaches will be integrated into a new model in purpose to examine the compatibility of entrepreneurial and regional developers interests. Surveys will be sent out to 600 manufacturing subsidiaries and multivariate statistical analyses will be conducted.
The results of this investigation might show that the application of Japanese management methods is less a country-specific problem, but depends much more on regional dynamism.
