Role of the ci transcription factor in the hedgehog signal transduction pathway

Objective

Role of the Ci transcription factor in the hh signal transduction pathway Recently, the secreted hedgehog (hh) molecule has been shown to play an important role in cell-cell communication in Drosophila and in vertebrates. However, the biochemical mechanisms by which hh regulates the activities, transcriptions, or both of secondary signal transducers is poorly understood. A number of gene products including the serine/threonine kinase fused and the transcription factor cubitus interruptus (Ci) have previously been implicated as putative components of the hh signalling pathway. The objective of this proposal is to gain a more detailed understanding of the molecular basis of hh signal transduction in Drosophila. I will investigate the activity of a number of the components of the putative signalling pathway, focussing on the regulation and function of the Ci protein. These studies should in turn provide insights into the molecular basis of signalling by Hh family proteins in vertebrates.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
