Risultati sfruttabili

Within the forging industries, there is a requirement to reduce lead-time, raise quality and efficiency and solve difficulties in the most efficient manner to improve operations within a forging facility. Following these requirements, the partners of OPTIMUM have developed a general parallel tool that allows automatically to obtain optimal designs starting from the product specification, using HPC techniques. This tool is based on the two-dimensional and axisymmetric simulation FORGE2 code and developed with two different and complementary approaches. Approximation Method and Direct Method. PVM and MPI paradigms have been applied to have a portable and performance parallel environment, running from PC workstation clusters to parallel machines. A parallel version of the FORGE2® software has been developed. For a given computer memory, it allows solving larger problems by less memory requirements. For average and large finite element problems, the parallel efficiency makes it possible to handle much more difficult problems, such as very accurate simulations, using very fine meshes, or complex tooling set-ups including large number of connected tools. The tool will find use within the end user partners (FOVISA, GSB, FORD WERKER and IATRIKI TECNIKI) and within design consulting services offered by the development partners (CEMEF, TRANSVALOR AND LABEIN) in fields as forging, metal forming industry, glass-forming industry. The OPTIMUM Web site maintained by LABEIN (www.labein.es) describes the software development and some test results of the project.
