Internet-based scheduler for material optimisation and agile production in multi-site enterprises (IS-OPTIMUS)

Ziel

The objective is to develop a dynamic scheduler for multi-site enterprises, which consistently generates, under changing production conditions, fast, flexible and optimised schedules, considering the importance of product mix and short lead times combined with delivering optimum cutting patterns and product arrangements for the processing of 2D board components. Both problems are interdependent and they outline the need for a holistic scheduler to address the issues of flexibility and optimisation. The resulting tool will address the aspects of a distributed production control approach covering the new demands of the extended enterprises. For doing so, intensive use of Internet technologies will be applied.
The project has completed all the tasks foreseen in the work plan. The main technical achievements that have been reached are the following:
WP1. Detailed User Requirements Analysis: User requirements have been collected and stated in the "User, Hardware and Software Requirements" document (deliverable D1);
WP2. Selection of Scheduling Resolution Techniques: A broad review of the state-of-the-art in scheduling techniques was made in order to gather the most suitable scheduling techniques taking into account the requirements of all industrial partners. All the information was compiled into the "List of appropriate scheduling techniques" document (deliverable D3). This study included also currently available commercial products (both for scheduling and for material optimisation);
WP3. System Design: Requirements were analysed, and the global system architecture was designed to meet them. At the same time, specific module designs were completed in order to fulfil all the functionality needed by the global system. Also, several "use cases" that define general behaviour in different scenarios for the end users' companies were defined, in order to ensure the right focusing of the tool from the user point of view. All this information was gathered in the design documents: "Is-Optimus System Design" (deliverable D6), "Material Optimisation Module Design" (deliverable D7), "Static Scheduling Module Design" (deliverable D8), "Dynamic Scheduling Module Design" (deliverable D9), and "Shop-floor Data Capture Module Design" (deliverable D10);
WP4. System Development & Integration: Early prototypes for each module were developed and integrated into a "Framework prototype" (deliverable D11), that was shown in the mid-term review meeting. These prototypes allowed the developer team to test the general behaviour and performance of the system at a very early stage. At the end of the work package the "Is-Optimus System prototype" (deliverable D15) was generated;
WP5. Installation & Tests: During this phase the system prototype was deployed and tested in the three pilot demonstration sites (ETC in Spain, TOPFORM in Ireland, and NANOS in Greece). The system was refined until reach its current status (pre-commercial stage);
WP6. Exploitation & Dissemination: The activities carried out in this work package have been summarised in three different documents: The "Market research and feasibility study" (deliverable D19.1) the "Business plan" (deliverable D19.2) and the "Exploitation and dissemination report" (deliverable D19.3).
