Diesel-low emission levels by engine modelling

Objective

Numerical models for the prediction of diesel engine spray development; combustion and emission formation will be developed. A wide range of engine operation conditions will be covered: effects caused by injection rate history, heat transfer and by exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) will all be taken into account. Both passenger car and truck engines will be studied. Sub-models will be coded by model developers with a well-defined interface to basic CFD codes and will, whenever possible, work independently of a particular CFD code. Validation of the models will be done in carefully designed experiments in high-pressure diesel combustion chambers as well as in well-defined engine experiments. The work to implement and supply models in engine CFD codes will be out by participating automotive companies. The CFD code will be the one presently used for engine combustion applications within the company.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
