The purpose of the conference is to present a review of recent advances in the field of nuclear physics, and to provide a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects. The programme of the conference includes four main topics of basic nuclear physics, namely (A) Nuclear structure, (B) Nucleus-nucleus collisions, (C) Hadron dynamics, (D) Nuclear astrophysics, and A topic (E) of Applications, focused on Accelerator-driven systems and Hadron therapy of cancer. The above topics cover the majority of research activities in basic and applied nuclear physics carried out a the Physics Department of the University of Bologna, which is the organising Institution, at the Bologna Section of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, and other research institutes in Bologna, and reflect current trends in international nuclear research where Europe has already achieved scientific Leadership. The conference intends to promote exchange of ideas and future collaboration among leading scientist in Europe, their colleagues in the more developed Countries and Asia, and scientists from developing regions. The most ambitious goal of the conference is to provide critical guidelines for the Study of atomic nuclei, their constituents, synthesis, structure and reactions at the dawn of a new Century of research.
