Ampere Summer School on "Applications of Magnetic Resonance in Novel Materials"

Ziel

The Project concerns the organization of a Summer School in the framework of the Ampere Society, one of the most important European Scientific Societies Europe (with prominent members like the Nobel Prize winners Professors R. R. Ernst and K. A. Mueller), which is devoted in the study of molecules and atoms with magnetic resonance techniques. The School will be held in Naplion (Greece) in the time interval 3-9 September 2000. Magnetic resonance (MR) techniques have developed tremendously in the last years and became an important experimental tool in front-line-research in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Materials science. Today, research in one of the above fields without invention of MR techniques is unthinkable. The scope of the School is to train young scientists in the use of state-of-the-art magnetic resonance techniques in modem Materials Science research.

Under this aspect: (i) Modern one and multi- dimensional NMR techniques, (ii) NMR and Moessbauer applications in ultra high magnetic field and pressure conditions, (iii) pulsed ESR and muon spectroscopy techniques, and the latest updates in Imaging and diffusion NMR will be presented in the investigation of materials.

Selected application topics are: (1) Disordered Systems and Glassy Materials, (2) Liquid Crystals, Modulated and Incommensurate Systems, (3) Novel Electronic Conductors, (4) Ferromagnetic and Paramagnetic Systems, (5) Porous Systems, (7) Imaging of Materials, and (8) Bio-materials.
