International Symposium for Magnetic Resonance in Cardiovascular Research

Ziel

The objectives of this meeting are to bring together clinicians and basic research scientists who have an interest in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS) of the heart and vascular system. Topics covered will range from clinical/diagnostic applications of MRI and MRS to their use as basic research tools. This is the first time that a meeting on this subject will be held in the United Kingdom. The meeting will provide an invaluable vehicle to show the latest developments in the application of magnetic resonance in clinical and basic heart research. The meeting is one of a series of international meetings entitled 'Magnetic Resonance in Cardiovascular Research'. The first was in 1994 in Düsseldorf, organised by Jürgen Schrader from the lnstitut für Herz- und Kreislaufphysiologie. At that time it became clear that there was the need for a regular event, bringing together the basic and clinical scientists working in this field. The second meeting was held in Würzburg in May 1996, the third meeting took place in Utrecht in September 1997, the fourth meeting was in Würzburg 1998 and the most recent meeting took place on September 8th & 9th in Marseille 2000.

The invited speakers will be eminent scientists from all areas of cardiovascular MR research, from cardiologists to physicists. We propose to invite ~18 speakers from Europe, including Professors Axel Haase, Renee Ventura-Clapier and Jurgen Schrader, ~8 speakers from the United States, including Professors Paul Bottomley, Joanne Ingwall and Gerry Pohost and ~10 speakers from the United Kingdom, such as Professors Sir George Radda, Hugh Watkins and Peter Morris. We plan to have 6 sessions, each starting with a lecture and two ending with a debate.
L%Topics covered will be:- MRS studies of cardiac metabolism in genetically engineered mice - MRI studies of cardiac geometry and function in genetically engineered mice - The contribution of cardiac MRI to human genetics - MRI of blood vessels - Clinical cardiac MRS - Experimental cardiac MRS.
