Wind energy assessment and wind engineering

Obiettivo

Wind energy is in a period of very rapid development and becoming very competitive respect other energy sources. In this fast growing business, the development toward bigger, and more efficient wind turbines has put still greater emphasis on understanding the temporal and spatial variation of the mechanical loads created by the wind. Especially in very complex mountainous terrain the simple models for wind and turbulence become deficient. Also in offshore wind farms, a whole new set of questions arises. Economical aspect of the field must also be taken into consideration regarding siting of turbines within a wind farm. In order to cope with this broad range of problems it is necessary to prepare young scientists with a comprehensive view of different research methods especially in this important field for environmental and economical future of Europe such as wind energy development. In this applied field is necessary that training is conducted in close co-operation with public or with private research institutions and supervision from University. Different approaches to research are necessary to form the skilled human resources needed for developing the requisite of European research and technology in the coming years.
