Ziel
The angular leaf spot (ALS) disease of common bean (Hazels Vulgarism L.) caused by Phaeoisariopsis griseola (Sacc.) Ferr. (lsariopsis griseola Sacc.) is found world-wide and is considered to be one of the most important biotic constraints leading to yield losses which can reach 80% in pure stand. In the context of subsistence agriculture prevailing in Latin America, genetic resistance is the most suitable control method, but its main drawback is resistance breakdown caused by pathogen adaptation. The general objective of the programme is to develop an integrated strategy for durable ALS resistance in agro systems prevailing in Central America (with Costa-Rica as experimental base) and Brazil. The project aims at developing a rational approach of cultural practices (mixtures of cultivars and associated crops prevailing in the countries involved in the research).
