SHARING CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH MULTIMEDIA TELEMATICS

Obiettivo

The aim of AQUARELLE is to demonstrate a distributed world-wide multimedia information system offering access to interrelated reference material on the European cultural heritage. All relevant public or privately run information bases will be connected in a consistent and inter-operable network for transparent access and a global vision. Among the primary users will be curators and public authorities, as well as publishers and exhibition organisers. The project will also provide for multilingual support, access security, advanced authoring tools to link information assets, and powerful facilities for on-line resource discovery.

The primary users of the target system are professionals : museum curators, researchers, public administrations in charge of indexing, archiving, and security of the cultural heritage, commercial publishers creating art information products (e.g. : books, CDs, virtual exhibitions), art historians, fine art companies and exhibition organisers.

The project aims at providing to these users world-wide distribution of information with multi-lingual support, secured access and IPR protection, advanced authoring tools to create hypermedia "folders" linking relevant information assets, and powerful facilities for on-line resource discovery.
