Obiettivo
Construction and operation of a new heat exchanger for indirect lignite preheating to be integrated in a lignite drying plant according to the WTA process (fluidized bed drying with internal waste heat utilization). The main characteristics of the lignite preheater are :
- Use of waste heat to preheat the coal, which provides 11% of the entire energy requirements (of the WTA process)
- Thanks to coal preheating, WTA drying is quasi self-sufficient in terms of steam (no external steam supplies)
- The WTA process with preheater will cut the energy input by 20% related to primary energy and compared to WTA without preheater.L%
The assembly of the coal preheater and all other components is finished. The subsequent commissioning phase started in mid-January 1996 and was completed with the successful guarantee test run on April 19, 1996. The values achieved during that test run in respect of raw coal throughput and raw coal heating surpassed the development targets set for the new preheater. The preheater can be reliably controlled in terms of production and safety engineering.
Rheinbraun has developed a novel lignite drying process which was successfully implemented in a first demonstration plant (see EC Contract Nr. EE./00016/89/DE). In this WTA demonstration plant (Wirbelschicht Trocknung mit interner Abwaermenutzung = Fluidized bed drying with internal waste heat utilization) two coal preheaters were integrated which were the only components marked by operating trouble, causing them to be replaced by a new coal preheater. This new heat exchanger for indirect lignite preheating is to be developed constructed and operated which is to form an energetically vital component in the WTA process. The aim of the project is to reach the industrial maturity of the new heat exchanger, thus creating the basis for its large scale application.
The function of the coal preheater is closely linked with the WTA process; this description will therefore deal with the entire process. The plant has a capacity of 20 t/h of product (12% moisture dried lignite), which corresponds to 44 t/h of feedstocks (60% moisture lignite). First, this amount is preheated by a hot process condensate to approx. 65 deg. C in a preheater. In this process, about 11% of the overall energy requirements is provided by the coal preheater. The major remainder of the energy necessary for drying is supplied by heat exchangers installed in the fluidized bed drier. In the drier the raw lignite is dried in a 100% steam atmosphere (110 deg. C, 1.08 bar) and then cooled to 60 deg. C. During the drying process, 24 t/h of coal dust laden steam is discharged at the top. In an electrostatic precipitator, 99.98% of the coal dust is separated and recirculated to the product flow. The cleaned, almost dust-free steam is partly supplied to a circulation compressor to serve as a fluidizing medium in the fluidized bed and partly fed to a steam turbo-compressor which has the function of a heat pump. The recompressed steam leaving the compressor condenses in the heat exchangers of the drier and is then conveyed to the coal preheater for lignite preheating.
