Improvement of methods of control and prognosis of periods of dangerous influence of space weather on satellites' electronics

Obiettivo

Upgrading of reliability of the satellite's electronic functioning due to improvement of methods of control and forecast of periods of the energetic particles hazardous action will be investigated with a combination of data analysis, theoretical modelling and numerical simulation. Satellites anomalies, satellites measurements, as well as ground-based data, will be used to determine quantitative relationship between the variable solar wind and magnetosphere electromagnetic activity, distribution of energetic particles in near-Earth space and satellite failures. On the basis of this collation improved methods of forecast and control of classes of electromagnetic conditions in the Earth's magnetosphere and space-time distribution of high-energy particles according to the level of their possible effects on satellite's electronics will be developed.
The completion of these tasks will provide a basis for the developing of recommendations on the preventive procedures to diminish the hazardous potential of space weather disturbances.
For the realization of this multidisciplinary Project the international collaboration of experts in various scientific fields (interplanetary space, cosmic rays, Earth's magnetosphere, space weather), will be established, including 18 scientists and 11 young scientists from NIS countries. NIS partners will have access to previous achievement in the Western laboratories. A related training activity is planned. This will allow to NIS partners to perform studies in a highly qualified level.
