Hadron-electron separator for the ZEUS experiment at HERA

Risultati sfruttabili

With support from INTAS, the Institute of Nuclear Physics at Moscow State University has been very active in the HES Project and the ZEUS experiment at HERA. INP-MSU has been able to make a significant contribution to the design, construction, and operation of the HES detector and to the physics analyses available using HES within the ZEUS experiment at HERA. More than 50% of the FHES detector, consisting of 10128 silicon diode detectors in a planar array covering approximately 10m² was operated in 1996. The balance of the components were produced during 1996 in preparation for installation during the 1996-97 winter shutdown. This improvement together with operating the existing RHES detector will enhance the physics scope obtainable at ZEUS and further the understanding of fundamental interactions. INP-MSU has contributed the central components for the new FHES detector; namely: the silicon diodes mounted on ceramic cards with pre-amplifiers and the long multi-layer boards used to transmit the signals from the diodes to the readout electronics. In addition to this contribution, physicists and engineers from INP-MSU have played an active role in designing the electronics for FHES in collaboration with the international HES group. Personnel from INP-MSU have also participated in the operation, maintenance and physics analysis with the operational RHES detector.
