Ore-bearing granites of Eurasia: anatomy and magmatichydrothermal mechanisms of ore deposition

The project aims at strengthening the transfer of inter-Eurasian knowledge on the anatomy and magmatic-hydrothermal evolution of selected ore-bearing granite systems in Eurasia and at integrating geological information about previously inaccessible regions and data. The project structure is based on Field Meetings/Workshops, multi-author monographs, and joint field and lab work. Two Field Meetings/Workshops in Kazakhstan and Transbaikalia/Russia were organized in the earlier project phase which provided the basis for a large network of co-operation between about 50 scientists from western and NIS countries One multi-author monograph is published, a second monograph is currently being edited. A thematic issue in Journal of Petrology appeared in December 1999. The book projects provide a state-of-the art account of a number of important granite-related ore deposits of the NIS countries, information formerly not available due to the strategic nature of these metal deposits (Ta, Nb, Mo, W, REEs). Published data on these deposits are lacking both in and outside of NIS countries. The monographs establish a reference data base allowing to compare and assess the economic potential of individual ore deposits, as well to develop a general metallogenic model.
