Objective
There is an increasing need for machines that will carry out tasks in working environments requiring mobility for their execution. Significant areas among the broad variety of related application domains include: planetary exploration, underwater work, intervention in hazardous sites, mining, shipbuilding, waste handling, nuclear sites maintenance, building maintenance, fire fighting, forestry.
With this vast range of applications in view the project will cover the following subjects: the design of mechanisms that are specifically suited to operate in a given environment or for a given task; the perception and modelling of 3D environments; the on-board autonomous decision-making processes; the learning processes; the advanced programming environments; and the task level teleprogramming.
The research programme will benefit several related projects and systems such as: wall-climbing robots, multi-legged machines (for example the MARSHA, PRIAMOS and TRACMINER projects), the Mars rover, the KASTOR VALUE project and the ROTEX space robot.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
