The DIET information ecosystem software consists of a decentralised, robust and adaptable multi-agent platform, where individual agents make minimal demands on system resources and through the decentralised operation can work effectively without central control. It incorporates a number of innovative features in its design which means that it can be used to provide the infrastructure of distributed applications without consuming too much of the resources that those applications require.
These include thread sharing, which allows agents to persist without requiring a thread where limits on system resources prevent allocation of such. These innovations have been reflected in patent applications to cover the platform. It has been disseminated through a number of publications, and will be released under an Open Source licence to be used in the wider community of agent software developers.
