Multimedia for open and dynamic executives learning

Ziel

The MODEL project aims to develop a knowledge management (KM) system (methodological framework, software tools etc.) which enhances the organisational ability to capture, structure and transfer knowledge across the different organisational groups (departments etc.) and over time (from project to project). The key idea behind MODEL is a conceptual and practical shift from the informational retrieval approach in business and academic institutions, to the development of an integrated methodology that enable the capture of both explicit and tacit knowledge within the organisation and increase the effectiveness of learning materials. The MODEL KM system will be validated as a mean for enhancing the knowledge dissemination within organisations.

Objectives:
The projects aims to fulfil the following objectives: to identify factors which enable and constrain the capture, structure and diffusion of knowledge across the organisation and over time, to develop an organisational methodology which facilitates the capture of both explicit and tacit knowledge, to develop software applications which can store and structure the captured knowledge, to develop a learning platform (including methodological guidelines and S/W applications) which nurtures at both individual and organisational levels the knowing Capability, i.e. the capability to enact the skills which are associated with putting knowledge into practice, to test the system in a real-life organisational environment through action research with private companies and academic operators specialised in executives training.

Work description:
Work in the MODEL project will unfold in three phases. The analysis phase in the project will strive to collect and synthesize four distinct types of material required to elaborate the MODEL concept. First, the current state-of- the-art understanding on the socio-cognitive, pedagogic, organisational, and technological facets of the rapidly evolving field of knowledge management. Second, the analysis will look into particular organisational contexts and work practices (both in the user organisations participating in MODEL, and beyond these) to establish the context, content, and processes relate to business process driven organisational learning. Third, analysis work will turn to examine organizations candidate for MODEL-driven support as operational and decision making entities involving knowledge intensive tasks. The final type of analysis in MODEL will focus on the environment of knowledge intensive organisational work. The result of this phase will be a conceptual and methodological framework for the development and use of Interactive/dynamic Case-studies as a KM tool in service organizations. The development phase has two major aspects. First business scenarios for the development and use of interactive/dynamic Case-studies will be formulated. Second, he technological infrastructure necessary to realise the MODEL concept will be developed. The third and final phase of the project is concerned with pilot use, evaluation and exploitation activities. As a result by the end of the project, six (6) user cases will be developed and evaluated in 6 different corresponding environments and contents. To accomplish this, from month 3 a set of technical assessment criteria will be developed setting the metrics to validate the MODEL system impact in employees KM activities (e.g. percentage of work activities per user supported by the MODEL tool-set, number of core business processes supported in each pilot user).

Milestones:
The key milestones and expected results are as follows: Identification of test-organizations learning requirements specification of MODEL learning processes. Design of MODEL tool-set (User interface, Data Base, Metadata tools, Integrated learning environment). Delivery of MODELS prototype environment. Integration of the pilots evaluation in the final MODELS system design. MODEL commercialisation plan and exploitation strategy.
