Ziel
The strategic objective of TIDE is to foster introduction in the European market of an innovative tool for tuning of the regulation systems of power plants. Although this trial application will primarily target the European power generation market, the tool has a potential market across the whole process industry (oil, chemicals, pulp and paper, cement) worldwide. This strategic objective will be pursued primarily through a trial application of the TIDEA package, developed and tested by CESI, Italy, on the Didcot power plant owned and operated by National Power, UK. TIDEA is a package for tuning regulation loops based on dynamic on-line identification of the processes parameters.
The specific technical objectives of TIDE will be as follows:
1. To install a trial application of TIDEA on the power plant of Didcot;
2. To measure the economic benefit of the trial application to Didcot;
3. To evaluate the product performance and ease-of-use;
4. To re-engineer the package according to the findings of the evaluation;
5. To disseminate the results of TIDE by dedicated workshops;
6. To start commercial penetration through the selection of a sample of 10-20 end-users; they will be supplied with the re-engineered TIDE package for a beta-test after the conclusion of this project.
Objectives:
Regulation loop systems are aimed at ensuring stable and efficient running of industrial plants, while minimising the effects of external disturbances. The correct performance of the regulation systems tends to deteriorate with time, due to degradation of plant components between maintenance intervals, or drifts which occur in plant dynamic parameters such as gains, time constants. This deterioration in control performance can lead to human intervention by the operators in order to improve the performance based on experience or in manual adjustment of the controller settings on a "trial and error basis" by the control technicians. To remove the need for manual intervention and ensure optimal control performance, there is a need in the power industry (and the process industry in general) of packages for automatic tuning of the regulation systems, aimed at overcoming the inconvenience associated with the manual procedures for tuning.
Work description:
TIDE will be to try, test and validate TIDEA; revise and improve the package; disseminate the result of the trial application in the process automation market Europe-wide.
According to these overall objectives, the specific technical activities of TIDE project will be as follows:
1. to install a trial application of TIDEA on the power plant of Didcot, by linking TIDEA to the APMS supervisory and control system of Didcot;
2. to measure the economic benefit of the trial application to Didcot;
3. to evaluate the product performance and ease-of-use;
4. to re-engineer the package according to the findings of the evaluation to provide a product brief, manuals and other commercial material;
5. to disseminate the results of TIDE by dedicated workshops, possibly within major European events in the area of process control and power system engineering, such as IFAC, Interkama, Powergen, scheduled for summer-autumn 2001;
6. to start commercial penetration through the selection of a sample of 10-20 end-users; they will be supplied with the re-engineered TIDE package for a beta-test after the conclusion of this project.
Milestones:
Three milestones are forecasted for TIDE project. The results connected to each of these milestones are the following:
M1: Installation of TIDEA package on Supervision and Control System of Didcot Power Plant;
M2: Re-engineered version of TIDEA package and product documentation;
M3 cd-rom free evaluation package.
