Virtual Valley for rapid growth SMEs

Ziel

VIVA provides small-sized enterprises in a rapid growth phase with online services that support them in their early years with respect to Strategy, Financing, Marketing & Commercial Policies, and Human Resource management in order to evolve from an entrepreneurial atmosphere to more "managed" operations. VIVA online services rely on the ASP model to deliver
(a) Corporate applications,
(b) Community development, and
(c) Online consulting.
For validation purpose, pilot operations will be run in 4 European countries (France, Italy, UK and Romania) through a network of interoperating Web services. For almost one year, service penetration, usability, usefulness and inter-European collaborations will be monitored in order to assess and adjust the services.

Objectives:
The VIVA project targets small-sized enterprises in a rapid growth phase and aims at contributing to their sustainable economic development by offering online application services that support them in their early years with respect to Strategy, Financing, Marketing & commercial policies, and Human Resource management in order to evolve from an entrepreneurial atmosphere to more managed operations.

The operational development objectives of the project are to develop an online Internet service that offers on a rental basis:
- Corporate application services to support small-sized enterprises' operations with an Internet-enabled ERP, CRM and e-Business.
- Community development services that aim at creating a community of VIVA users for rising business opportunities to the subscribing enterprises.
- Online consulting services to enable enterprise in assessing their status and building their strategy.

Work description:
The project will first identify and analyse user needs and constraints. The methodology used for collecting information will rely on the techniques of Interviews, Surveys, and Focus Groups. The primary user group to be targeted by the project will include small-sized enterprises in a rapid growth phase and technological parks. Then the VIVA platform will be specified, dsigned and developed.

This platform supports entreprises' managers in their business operations and strategy setting by combining:
- Corporate application service provision (ASP). Major issues are interoperability and integration of corporate software, service customisation and ASP service management.
- Community development: based on Knowledge management techniques, it covers collaboration services and information services such as Expertise directory, Business tenders - in particular for international business -, Mergers & Acquisitions, Job opportunities, etc.
- Online consulting: the two services offered will be a corporate scorecard interfaced to the ERP data and therefore identify areas for improvement, and a tool to prepare business plan for financing projects development.
For validation purpose, pilot operations will be run in 4 European countries (France, Italy, UK and Romania) through a network of interoperating Web services. In each pilot region, ASP services will be supplemented with proximity services on-demand consulting and interpersonal networking. In this context, VIVA will be assessed with respect to Service penetration, usability, usefulness and unter-European co-operation. Finally, dissemination, market assessment and implementation planning will be performed for both the VIVA platform and services.

Milestones:
The projects mailestones are:
- Definition of a global system architecture suiting the needs of small-sized enterprises in a rapid growth phase
- Specification and development of a VIVA platform integrating tools required to support the target users in business operations and strategy setting
- Specification and implementation of VIVA services for 4 interacting European regions
- Extensive validation of both the VIVA platform and services.
