IMAGINE has been developed in a spiral life cycle, and the use of prototypes has been relevant for the success of the system.
There are four prototypes developed with IMAGINE during the project time:
- RNIB Online shop. A very good example of e-commerce through a graphical interface. This is the e-commerce version of the RNIB product catalogue. Customers now have more of a choice of how they purchase products from RNIB. The most used method is via the Customer Response telephone line, having browsed a copy of the print or alternative media (e.g. Braille) catalogue, however the recent launch of the RNIB Online Shop is the newest way to order. The language for this prototype is English.
- VIAPOLIS.COM was a city guide network developed by French and Spanish media groups. It covered fifty-four Spanish cities, including all main capitals and 12 French cities.
VIAPOLIS.COM aimed at satisfying the information, leisure and shopping needs of the citizens and visitors in each city. To date, the company has finished their activities but Iniciativas Digital Media, part of the Spanish group La Vanguardia, gets the control of the data. It is interesting for IMAGINE to be tested with such paradigm of citizen guide. The language for this prototype is Spanish.
- IMAGINE Web site. IMAGINE has been adapted to provide access in natural language to the own IMAGINE site. In this case, the access is made in English, Spanish and German through written mode and by speech mode in English.
- IMAGINE dummy application. In order to provide dissemination material, it has been packaged the full stuff accessing the IMAGINE Web site. This package gives also the instructions to adapt it to similar sites to IMAGINE, providing simple access in written natural language
To support the marketing of the product additional services will be made available. These services will be marketed in an on-demand and ad-hoc basis and will be charged in a manner as deemed appropriate by the service provider (fees, fixed price, cost-basis, T&M).
These services include:
- General support, consultancy and training about all aspects of using a VNLI, analysis, design & development of a VNLI etc.
- Perform maintenance and upgrades for the runtime or development environment.
- Improve the implementation of a VNLI (trouble shoot and debug).
- Development of language adaptations, knowledge packs, modules and other optional modules.
- Specialised adaptations of modules (e.g. new ad-hoc communications module, speech interface).
