SYDIC-Training is a project providing training about advanced system specification and validation methods of electronics systems. In a partnership with industry, a consortium of academic institutes and EDA vendors will develop a set of courses, with strong emphasis upon providing hands-on experience. The courses will be customized to the specific needs of the industrial partners and will be developed in different flavors, targeting different application domains: telecom, avionics, military. The course portfolio will be complementary to what is available today, and aims to be a bridge to transfer advanced results in the field of design methodology research to industry. In the first phase, particular industry requirements will be assessed and the technical content of the initial courses will be adapted to those needs, the delivery demonstrators will be provided and results carefully analyzed. The second phase will focus on a selection of most efficient delivery mechanisms; a web-based on-line material assisted by a tutor will be targeted. Attention will be paid to the highly effective methods of promotion and exploitation especially via the ECSI Institute.
OBJECTIVES
- To organize training courses about system specification methodology and concepts, and system validation methods, for complex electronic systems. The results from design methodology research need to be efficiently transferred from academia to industry;
- To organize training courses around new or prototype EDA tools entering the market;
- To organize or create training courses around newly emerging standard methods (languages, notations) used in the specification of complex systems;
- To provide the mechanisms of customizing education and training services in order to satisfy the dynamically changing requirements of the system industry. The customization will address both the technical content and the delivery mechanisms to provide training services just-in-time for a specific set of industry requirements;
- To establish an efficient mechanism of promotion of the newly developed training;
- To create the ECSI Institute for the long term exploitation of project results; the Institute will continuously enlarge the course portfolio to provide highly advanced expertise in the domain of system design to the whole European industry.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
WP1 (Assessment of Industry Needs): The training needs of the industrial partners will be identified in terms of course content and scope, application domain, practical examples;
WP2 (Training Content and Material Preparation): A set of courses will be defined and prepared for the needs identified in WP1. This will include the technical contents, practical exercises and evaluation mechanisms. The potential for on-line accessibility of the material will be explored;
WP3 (Training Material Customisation): The training material will be tailored to different application areas identified by the industrial partners (specific contents, domain specific examples, specific tools and learning methodology e.g. the level of interactivity, learning aids, training support, mentorship etc.);
WP4 (Promotion, exploitation and analysis): A Marketing & Promotion Committee will ensure the promotion of the educational services to all potential industrial end users. An analysis of the different courses will be performed using primarily feedback from industry. Criteria for improvement will be defined and implemented. Exploitation will be ensured by the ECSI Institute and by all project partners;
WP5 (Delivery demonstrators): The goal of WP5 will be to identify and develop new solutions for remote and web based delivery of all the training courses for a disparate group of training providers. A stepwise approach will be adopted to include:
a) Face to face courses and hands-on labs of up to 5 days duration (dedicated courses in a particular application area);
b) Web hosted on-line delivery, with a varying degree of the tutor assistance;
WP6 (Management): This WP will perform an efficient organizational and technical coordination of the actions in the project.
