Shoe Information Network

Ziel

This project has the general objective of adopting broad solutions and novel tools aiming at developing the innovative capacities of SMEs of a traditional sector such is the footwear and auxiliary industry, through the implementation of IS based systems which will allow to establish new work procedures.

The fields covered by the proposal are:
- CAD/CAM as source of value chain integration;
- Shoe data management systems, as derivation from big systems used in other sectors;
- Quality management systems based on the internet for decentralised organisations (companies with production, sales, design, in different places);
- Support to shoe vendors and integration with productive sites through mobile systems.

An additional objective of the project is to perform an exercise of defining a pilot action of a future Integrated Project according to EC criteria towards the shoe industry (or traditional industries). This proposal offers good advantages for doing that, as it involves industrial partners, technology sectorial centers, dissemination centers and provides strong potential to develop a project definition study under good complementariry criteria.

Objectives:
The specific technical objectives of the project are:
- To integrate specific CAD solutions for shoe components and shoe design and manufacturing, aiming at the reduction of time in the creative process by 60%;
- To improve the exchange of technical data between companies (shoe data management, quality data management, technical support to vendors);
- To speed up the process of sales-start up of production by 20%;
- To design and implement specific design-production-quality management methods for companies involved in the implementation of the new work procedures;
- To reduce the costs of pre-series production by 50%;
- To decrease the time for components and shoe integration in the pre-production stages by a factor of 2;
- To increase awareness on specific CAD systems and its integration among several vertically integrated companies;
- To define a methodology for the launching of an integrated project for the coming VI FP.

Work description:
1. Study phase: analysis of companies' needs, existing technical options and selection of the best one for each company. Detailed analysis (technical audits) at each partner of technology and financial related aspects (cost-benefit analysis). Fine tuning of action plans at each company;
2. Implementation phase: integration of proposed solutions at individual level and then at group level;
3. Industrial trials: in order to obtain appropriate feedback and information about behaviour of the proposed systems as well as gaining experience for integration at other companies. Direct contact with companies will be one of the main elements of the feedback loop;
4. Assessment phase: evaluation by internal and external experts of results, benefits and those aspects of interest for further dissemination;
5. Dissemination activities: diffusion of results to European footwear and auxiliary companies with the support of sectorial organisations;
6. Training actions: as support for the implementation of the proposed technologies and in order to improve skills of people participating in the project and facing the challenge of IST in SMEs.

Milestones:
The expected and measurable project results will be:
- Integrated specific solutions for shoe components and shoe design and manufacturing, aiming at the reduction of time in the creative process by 60%;
- Designed and implemented specific design-production, quality management and shoe data management methods for companies involved in the implementation of the new work procedure;
- Reduced the costs of pre-series production by 50%;
- Decreased the time for components and shoe integration in the pre-production stages by a factor of 2;
- Increased awareness on specific CAD systems and its integration among several vertically integrated companies;
- Criteria for the launching of a future Integrated Project under Framework Programme VI.
