Objectives
The objective of this project is the investigation of energy saving potentials and the development of a Building Energy Management With Smart Systems (BySyS) which - different from other Energy Management Systems - includes an easy and intuitive dialogue between user, energy consumers, energy suppliers and BySyS as well as a visualisation of actual energy flows and costs.
Technical Approach
The innovation of the visualisation unit will be its influence on the user via a price information to a more energy saving behaviour. For the first time the potential of those savings by indirect education of the user will be defined.
Based on an European Installation Bus (EIB) as basic communication system and the pricing model as regulation strategy BySyS will be implemented in an office building to work out a technique for maximum energy saving and to optimise the combined energy supply with renewable and conventional suppliers like photovoltaics, solar thermal systems, combined heat and power, grid, etc.
In combination with the great variety of transmission media of the EIB, the future realisation of BySyS as EIB component is offering the possibility to be used in new as well as in existing buildings. The use of power line as transmission medium provide an easy and flexible way to integrate the intelligence and hardware into existing installations without additional wiring of a separate communication bus.
Expected achievements and exploitation
- Minimised energy consumption.
- A better combination of different energy suppliers (grid, PV, solar thermal, combined heat and power, etc.).
- An automatic detection of energy misuse.
- A visualisation unit to inform the user about his actual energy consumption and indirect education to a more ecological and economic behaviour. - Definition of the energy saving potential obtained by the above mentioned indirect education.
- An automatic adaptation to the building parameters.
- Possible use in existing as well as in new buildings.
- Minimised cabelling of the communication bus system compared with other building automation systems.
- Fault tolerance.
The implementation as standalone EIB-component is planned to be realised in a following project. The availability on the market and its connection to the EIB will guarantee a fast distribution and evaluation of the results of the BySyS-project.
The experiences of this project are important for the development of sensor and actor components which have a main influence on the success and the work of a building energy management system. An optimisation on this sector will additionally optimise the work of BySyS.
