Holistic integration of renewable energy

Obiettivo

Objectives of the project
Priority will be on the development of an holistic approach within promotion, planning and implementation of RE scenarios (that takes also the fossil fuels into account) to increase cost competitiveness of all regional available and applicable RE's.
The holistic approach will lead into a model that can serve as a basis for the design of a software-tool that should enable consultants from energy supplying companies to evaluate the RE potentials from the overall point of view within chosen locations. The duration for such a survey should not exceed more than one day. The investigation should answer several technical and economical questions on the benefits for all stakeholders (communities, energy suppliers, farmers, other agro-SME's, private households, etc.) and on the dimension and mix and distribution of the RE plants.
The objective of the project is the development of such a model and the application of this in two areas within Europe.
For the demonstration purposes mentioned above, the second focus will be on the competitiveness of biogas-technology in this holistic systems integration. The objective is the design of a model for a biogas plant that takes future components and modules into account. Several simulations and optimisations will be done on the model in order to yield and increase its competitiveness from the energetical, logistical and economical point of view. The development of such a model can lead into a software for an optimal layout of a biogas plant in a systems integration.
Finally the consortium will put is emphasis on the promotion of RE technology in the selected areas. The results of the project will have to show the targeted groups, mentioned above, the cost competitiveness of RE' s - at least for peakpower management purposes.
Technical approach
The approach will be based on a technique as QFD (quality function deployment), which, starting with the demand-side management and ending at the concrete planning of projects, includes the knowledge and abilities that are available in the region, at project partners. operators and authorities. Using this methodology it will be possible to develop and to evaluate the different requirements for the optimal integration of RE from a holistic point of view. Through the use of this method the requirements and demands of customers, authorities, operators and population are identified and weighed (demand-side specs). Further the technical, economical and social criteria's of an energy scenario are developed and matched with the demand-side specs in a matrix. After that the assignment of quantified goals; conflicting goals are identified and balanced. First, to improve the cost-competitiveness of the scenario, benchmarks will be chosen and compared with alternatives. Second, the technical competitiveness is evaluated and critical points are identified. This method will yield statements concerning the degree of difficulty in realisation and concerning the required degree of innovation under the identified constraints.
This method is expected to transform the local and regional stakeholder requirements and demands into quantified energy scenarios and into requirement specifications for single projects.
Expected achievements and exploitation
It is planned to show the competitiveness of RE's in a systems integration from the holistic point of view in selected locations. To this end, energy scenarios will be developed that include the key figures for implementation purposes. The exploitation plans will particularly address authorities in the regions under investigation which are in close collaboration with the participating energy supplier.
