Obiettivo
Part 1 (TEG): The purpose is to identify economic and operational objectives for a Pan European gas network model,
Part 2 (SAFIRE): The purpose is to identify economic prospects for renewable energy sources.
Part 3 (SITRE): The purpose is to develop an information system on energy resources in EC countries.
Part 4: European gas model for strategic decisions.
The different parts of the project produce the following outputs: Part 1: A model providing a realistic representation of gas network operations in Europe;
Part 2: A contribution to the energy RTD analysis on renewable energy; Part 3: A resources module for the POLES and PRIMES models;
Part 4: A contribution to the energy RTD strategy for gas exchanges in Europe.
The main output from the project is a computer-based, analytical framework containing a database of energy demand and technology profiles that can be used to carry out cost-benefit analyses for different policy instruments and technologies. The model package includes software available on disc and written in Microsoft Foxpro database language; a Users' Manual which gives procedures for entering data, defining scenarios, running SAFIRE and obtaining output; a Methodology Report which references the technical details of the model, including mathematical algorithms; a Cost-Benefit Coefficient Report which describes the methodology used to obtain the cost-benefit coefficients for SAFIRE. Innovative aspects to the model include the models of strategic investments, the data collection, and the work done on parallel computing.
Part I : The type of economic problem to be considered is related to the impact of the internal market on the gas market.
The work packages of the research are the following:
- provide a realistic representation of gas network operations, - provide a computable model based technology,
- analyze possible solution algorithms,
- prepare case studies.
Part II : The SAFIRE framework will integrate the spectrum of renewable energy resources, the spectrum of processing and conversion technologies, the spectrum of end users, and the accounting framework for external cost evaluation.
The different modules of the research are the following:
- to develop SAFIRE requirements, - to generate a data-base, - to develop the model, - to implement partial studies, - to disseminate first results, - to manage and report.
Part III : The system will be able to provide "retrospective" as well as "prospective" information, such as availability of a given set of resources in a given country at one point in time or over a given period.
Part IV : Providing and exchanging data and information from existing models with the other partners in the overall project. The area coverage is EC + EFTA countries, as well as Eastern European countries (with PECO partners).
