Directly-driven wind turbine generator project

The project aimed to prepare a specification and to perform preliminary designs forfive proposed solutions for a 500 kW directly-driven wind turbine generator. One ofthese solutions was to be selected as the basis for a general design for a 500 kWdirectly-driven wind turbine. A 40 kW prototype of the selected generator design,equipped with a suitable power conversion system, was then to be designed,manufactured and tested in the laboratory. An existing test wind turbine was to bemodified to incorporate the 40 kW generator and to perform testing and evaluation.
