Exploitable results

This project was conceived to provide modelling support to the Potsdamer Platzbuilding project (JOU-CT93-0426). Its aim was to design three demonstrationbuildings, two office and one residential, within a set economic framework. It wasintended that this work would contribute to the formation of a new EuropeanStandard for the integration of the low energy design approach to architecture indensely populated urban environments. To achieve this, different moderntechnologies and materials suitable for this purpose were explored and the state ofthe art in computer modelling techniques were used to establish the energy efficientdesign of the three buildings. The concept of integrating daylight optimization andnatural ventilation were also explored as innovative techniques through whichprimary energy consumption could be reduced. In addition to the energy savingcriteria it was also an objective of the project to provide a high standard of comfort.
