Pressurised circulating fluidised bed combustion technology

An existing computational fluid dynamics software code was extended to take account of the solid phase flow characteristic of pressurised circulating fluidised bed combustor (PCFBC). The code development was based on sub-models and the numerical output was verified against experimental results from test rigs. The results have been incorporated into the commercial software package FLUENT 4.4, which permits 3D simulations of fluidised beds or other systems having a high solids loading. Further validation is needed to establish the code for use in full-scale plant design.
