Building a multilingual wordnet database with semantic relations between words; EuroWordNet

Today a rapidly growing volume of information is available online, from databases, information systems, text archives, World-Wide Web and increasingly through Intranet implementations. In the European Union, much of this information is also expressed in different languages. Finding the desired information presents a major problem. Even if information is indexed, the indexing varies greatly and requires expert knowledge of the terminology used. The project produced a multilingual (initially Spanish, Dutch, Italian and English) network of words linked by semantic relations, allowing related words to be determined in the same or a different language.
