Obiettivo
The aim is to begin applying throughout the Saône Valley agreed management and development measures in order to solve in an integrated manner, the problems caused by flooding, and to restore the natural heritage. The Life Porgramm will enable the various steps to be planned and co-ordinated throughout the valley, will allow better application of the regulations and the setting-up of long-term process of applying the Management Plan over the whole of the Saône Valley.
Completed studies carried out by the Association on the river Saône and its floodable valley resulted in a very innovative project, which by respecting use regulations for the valley which are coherent for both parties, will make it possible to coordinate -with the aim of reconquering these natural assets- policies which up to this time have been sector based and often with divergin interests: this is the Saône Valley Management Plan.
Its implementation, foreseen over a 15 years period, will be initiated through the LIFE-Environment programme, which will make it possible over a 42 months period:
- to carry out concrete convincing actions aimed at effectively bringing into question current practices which do not adequately integrate environment protection requirements.
- to coordinate and ensure the extension of these localized measures to the whole valley and to other regions.
This project therefore as presented to LIFE consists of 5 parts:
- Improve navigation work management, in the sense of better compatibility between navigational and agriculture interests in periods of small flooding, and maintain any flooding within sectors offering an environment benefit.
- Restoration, though the use of better agriculture work management, of the fonctionning of field flooding of the Saône in zones for cultivation, compatible with better environmental consideration.
- Up-grade the banks of the Saône by re-thinking the development of the linear banks, tow paths and annex spaces.
- Design and setting up of an 'environment tele service' network on the basin.
- Awareness and information campaigns on water resource preservation in the Saône Valley.
