Obiettivo
IN ORDER TO MEET THE RISING DEMAND FOR WOOD PRODUCTS, NEW TECHNIQUES IN TREES BREEDING PROGRAMMES HAVE TO BE DEVELOPED THAT CAN BE USED IN ADDITION TO THE OLDER ONES. PLANT TISSUES MULTCULTURE HAS PROVED TO BE A PRACTICAL MEANS FOR THE RAPID MULTIPLICATION OF SELECTED CULTIVARS IN AGRICULTURE AND HORTICULTURE. THEREFORE, THE POTENTIAL VALUE OFFERED BY THE APPLICATION OF THESE TECHNIQUES TO FOREST TREES BREEDING HAS NOW COME TO BE WIDELY RECOGNIZED AS WELL.
FOREST TREES, AND ESPECIALLY THE CONIFERS, ARE IN GENERAL MORE DIFFICULT TO CULTURE IN VITRO THAN HERBACEOUS SPECIES.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED WORK IS IMPROVED TECHNIQUES FOR BREEDING AND PROPAGATION OF NORWAY SPRUCE.THE INDUCTION OF SOMATIC EMBRYOS IN DIFFERENT EXPLANTS WILL BE STUDIED IN DETAIL.
THE INTRODUCTION OF MODERN GENE TECHNOLOGY OFFERS POSSIBILITIES TO FOLLOW THE GENE ACTIVITIES IN CELLS AND TISSUES WHICH HAVE BEEN INDUCED TO FORM EMBRYOS. THE RESULTS OF THESE STUDIES WILL BE COMPARED WITH SIMILAR STUDIES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEED EMBRYOS TO MAKE THE INDUCTION PROCEDURE AS NORMAL AS POSSIBLE. IN THIS WAY IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE PROCESS MORE EFFICIENT AND WITH BETTER FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLANTLETS.
