Fluxes across narrow shelves. The Ebro delta case

Risultati finali

2D and 3D simulations of water fluxes on the FANS study area which have been obtained with different finite-diference and finite element models. Most simulations are process-oriented rather than actual diagnostics or hindcasts. results consist of ASCII files containing model results (mainly velocity and pressure fields), which can be accessed via ftp on request .
2D and 3D simulations of suspended matter concentrations on the FANS study area which have been obtained with different numerical models. Most simulations are process-oriented studies. ASCII files containing model results (suspended matter concentrations), which can be accessed via ftp on request. Potential applications: Coastal zone monitoring impact assessment studies, pollution control decision-making, design of engineering works. Potential uses: Coastal zone management authorities companies, engineering companies, research institutes.
A comprehensive data base which includes all data collected in the FANS study area during the project life. The study area covered the continental shelf stretch comprised between Cape Salou and the Columbretes Islands (NW Mediterranean). Data were obtained between October 1996 and July 1998. Copies of the project data base are available as ASCII files on CD Rom at request. Data files included in the FANS Data Base CDs: a) Cruise data - CTD/Oxygen/Fl/Tr profiles - Water sample data (Oxygen, nutrients, Chlorophyll) - ADCP current profiles - Drifter trajectories - Other miscellaneous data - Meta-information b) Time series (from deployed) - Meteo data - Currents at single depths - ADCP current profiles - OBS at single depths - Other miscellaneous data - Meta-information Potential applications: Coastal zone monitoring impact assessment studies, pollution control decision-making, design of engineering works. Potential uses: Coastal zone management authorities companies, engineering companies, research institutes.

FANS aims at improving the existing knowledge on water, sediment and nutrient fluxes in the Ebro delta narrow shelf region in which nearshore, continental shelf slope processes interact to determine the resulting dynamics. FANS is an observational and experimental research project combining in-situ and remote sensing measurements and numerical modelling in a synergetic manner. Despite the local extent of the project study area, the project scientific approach is such that generic conclusions applicable to other narrow shelf systems (eg. Most of the Mediterranean littoral) will be obtained. The plans for disseminating and exploiting the project results include publication of papers in peer-reviewed journals, the public release of the project data base after the end of the project and a final international workshop involving potential en users from different EU member countries. Further result dissemination and exploitation activities have been envisaged.
