Self-formation Research Towards Stairway To Excellence In Photovoltaic

Risultati finali

At the end of March 2005 was organized a final contractual meeting of the project. It was aiming to present for invited representatives of local authorities and European Commission project results and created possibilities for the generation of the young researchers and industry and to exchange ideas with regional authorities and industry partners in order to find the optimal way for increasing impact on national level of the results and findings of FIRST STEP and better integration with industry and SME sector partners, by delivering the results to the needs of the local community. The meeting was targeted to RTD and industry partners, local authorities and potential partners from various sectors of society: Parliament, government and governmental institutions, universities and academy, business and industry. At the meeting discussion covered following topics: - R&D management methods - Capabilities for small focused teams to organize R&D based on EC funding - Lithuanian R&D institutes integration into the European R&D - Place and role of professional management in R&D institutes - SMEs capability to perform R&D - R&D commercialization - The measurement criteria for R&D quality and capability.
One of main objectives of the 6th International Conference on Self-Formation Theory and Applications was Dissemination of the knowledge in the field and emerging research topics among the young researchers (postgraduate, PhD students, post-docs). 8 lectures for young researchers and students were prepared and published in the proceedings book and on CD-ROM as well. CD-ROMs were delivered to Conference participants during the Conference and later at various scientific events. Also it was used as one of popular gifts to attendees at the international science, innovations and high technologies exhibition Science 2004, which was held in Vilnius Exhibition Centre Litexpo on 25-28 of May, 2004. The shortened version of lectures is also available on-line as part of Self-Formation portal (URL: http://www.self-formation.lt/lectures.html). Lectures in printed form and on CD-ROM are available in libraries in Lithuania and abroad including USA, Canada, India, Bielorus, Russia, Ukraina . On-line version is available for general public. Target audience for the lectures: graduate, postgraduate and PhD students, post-docs.
To create modern possibilities to establish new collaboration of the Centre researchers and EU Research Self-Formation research and applications virtual site for postgraduate and PhD students was established. Besides materials submitted by Conference participants and researchers from Self-Formation an e-round-table (e-forum) option on Self-Formation theory and applications, discussions, future strategy of development is available as well. Target audience of e-forum: researchers, technologists, decision-makers, graduate, postgraduate and PhD students, post-docs in microelectronics, photovoltaic, fuel cells, nanotechnology and other. It was expected more active usage of e-forum option. In practice more effective way to share knowledge and opinions is personal communication both through e-mail and live. The main reasons of weak functioning of this service were very specific and not common research area and notoriety of service provider.
Organizing the final contractual event at the end of March 2005 finished the implementation of project. Preparation of the meeting was started from publishing a leaflet on FIRST STEP findings and results. The leaflet was used as a key promotion and dissemination tool, which was added to official invitation letters and sent to potential participants of the meeting: local authorities, governmental institutions, academy, universities, students, industrial and RTD partners. Leaflet introduced readers with project s objectives, self-formation basic ideas, project s results, RTD and business contacts established as project follow-ups. Leaflet is sent to European Commission as one of deliverables. It is also available on-line on address http://firststep.self-formation.lt/promotion/FIRST-STEP_Leaflet.pdf. Target audience: EC decision makers, potential partners, general public.
The 6th International Conference on Self-Formation Theory and Applications as one of major promotion and dissemination instruments of the project was held in Vilnius on November 26-28 of the year 2003. Established Conference web site is available at http://www.self-formation/conference. The main objectives of the Conference were: - Promotion and dissemination within EU of the knowledge acquired during the past 20 years in the field of Self-Formation, both conceptual and application-specific. - Providing an opportunity for the scientists from Lithuania, Baltic region and EU to exchange scientific ideas and facilitate co-operation in the field of Self-Formation and applications. Researchers, students and business representatives from EU-15 (currently EU-25), NAS and non-EU countries including USA and Canada attended the Conference. 86 authors submitted 47 papers. Conference Proceedings were published through a reputable scientific publisher - Trans Tech Publications Ltd on periodical Solid State Phenomena (covered in Science Citation Index and available in full text on the web), Volumes 97-98, ISBN 3-908450-85-3 and are available on-line as well. Printed Conference Proceedings were distributed to conference participants and disseminated among research and University Libraries in EU and non-EU countries including leading USA universities libraries. This way the information on Self-Formation theoretical and application driven topics are reachable for very broad not only Europe-wide, but also world-wide audience. Main users of the proceedings are researchers, technologists, students.
A web site (Self-Formation portal) was foreseen as a modern possibility to establish new collaboration of the Centre researchers and EU Research centres. On the other hand portal is aimed to attract young prospective researchers and students to continue research on Self-Formation and to forward information on self-formation subject to broad public in an attractive and popular way. Materials for publishing on the site were submitted mainly by Conference participants and researchers from Self-Formation Alliance. Content of Self-Formation portal is focussed on following topics: - Self-formation conceptual issues. - Short lectures for young researchers and students. - Events related to self-formation theory and applications in various fields of science. - Self-formation applications: existing and possibly expected. - Web resources on self-formation and related subjects. - Projects: self-formation research, applications, networking, information dissemination, etc. - Forum: round-table on self-formation and related issues. Portal is back-linked to web pages of Institute of Lithuanian Scientific Society (MSI) and The Centre of Excellence on Self-Formation Applications (CESFA). Internet address of Self-Formation virtual site is http://www.self-formation.lt.
