MULTI-STRING CASING CUTTING SYSTEM

Obiettivo

The aim is to demonstrate, under platform decommissioning conditions, that 100 percent cuts of multi-string casings can be achieved under the worst conditions of tubing eccentricity. Cutting to be achieved for multi-strings with the minimum inside casing diameter of 7 inches and the maximum outside diameter of 30 inches.
The main outcome of the project will be to demonstrate:
1. A powerful abrasive water jet system based on direct injection of abrasive (DIAJET) that is capable of reliable operation offshore.
2. A manipulation system that can operate within 7 inch casing and cut multi-string piles below seabed level.
3. Successful cutting of multi-string piles that represent the most arduous platform decommissioning situations likely to be encountered in the North Sea.
Over the forth six-month period of this project, the following progress has been made:
- The 700 bar continuous circuit testing has been completed and reported
- Jet pump transfer efficiency is required at 200%. Results at 700 bar show that approximately 250% transfer efficiency is achieved whilst the abrasive concentration is 15%.
- Testing of the load cells showed that they did not accurately measure the weight of abrasive in the vessels but did regognise the change in level of abrasive.
- The load cells used are rated for the 1400 bar system and on the final system the load cells will give sufficient data to allow for more accurate readings on vessel abrasive levels.
- Following modifications described in the 18 month report the 1400 bar valve has undergone further trials and to date has completed 5000 cycles without failure. This is well in excess of requirements.
Design of the 1400 bar system, utilising the jet pump transfer circuit, is now ready to commence. However before this can be started the sizing of the system has to be determined. This is dependent upon the availability of suitability high pressure hoses, the references of which is required from SCS S.A.
The developed technology will be operated in a growing decommissioning market which will require more and more equipments able to reach the following main objectives: cut large thickness materials, perform fast, reliable and efficient cuts and reduce the operational costs.
The innovative flow circuits for suspension abrasive water jet cutting module, combined with a manipulator, will be operated at pressures up to 1400 bar. It will use abrasives with higher densities and at higher concentration than existing systems in order to improve cutting performance on thick and composite structures.
It will content less than 50 percent of the valves of existing suspension abrasive water jet cutting modules. Monitoring systems will be integrated with the manipulator control system on the cutting head for cutting performance control.
The project will include the design or the definition, the manufacturing or the purchasing and the assembly or the integration of a 1400 bar Diajet slurry module, specific cutting tools including a tool able to perform cuts from 7" casings, an umbilical, an HP pump and a reliable cut control system.
Workshop and shallow water trials will allow to finalize the equipments and working procedures. Offshore trials will validate this project and the equipments developed.
