EUROPEAN DATABANK ON MULTIPHASE HYDROCARBON TRANSPORTATION

Obiettivo

The aim of the project is to establish European quality standards for engineering design tools which will become the basis of the design and operation of multiphase transport networks in offshore marginal fields.
It is proposed to acquire field data under operating conditions including extreme conditions such as start-up, shut-down, terrain slugging... Onshore sites offering significant variations in pipeline topography will be chosen, and offshore sites presenting strong/riser interactions will be flavoured.
These field data will be included into a European Databank. The latter will contain quality assured numerical and textual data which will be stored in a coherent form, for example details of the pipeline geometry, fluid properties, operating conditions, etc.
This databank will serve as a focus within Europe for the collection, storage and dissemination of information.
The six field campaigns for data acquisition have been carried out successfully. The Databank Structure has been distributed. It is being loaded with the field datasets before distribution. The data quality assessment for the six campaigns has been performed. The six acquisition campaigns have been fully documented in the Detailed Campaign Documents.
The proposed programme is divided into two phases :
Phase 1 - Field Data Acquisition
Phase 2 - European Data Bank build up
Data will be gathered from measurements sites on existing operational pipelines. The sites will be selected to provide information on the effects of diameter, inclination and geometry, on a number of important physical parameters particularly the mean value and time evolution of the liquid hold-up. Onshore sites offering significant variations in pipeline topography will be chosen and offshore sites offering long flowline/riser interactions will be favoured. The proposed work programme is the following :
PHASE 1 - FIELD DATA ACQUISITION
TASK I - Specification
1) To identify commercial multiphase pipelines on which instrumentation can be deployed and data acquired during Task III
2) To verify that the existing pipes of instrumentation are designed to meet the safety requirements of operation and oil/gas production.
TASK II - Instrumentation
1) To assemble safeand mechanically robust instrumentation packages for use on the multiphase pipelines under operation.
2) To test the instrumentation packages for performance and reliability on pilot plant
TASK III - Field Data Acquisition
1) To acquire data from the measurement sites identified during task I.
2) To undertake a preliminary check on each set of data.
PHASE II - EUROPEAN DATA BANK
The objective of this activity is to set-up a wide ranging database covering all aspects of multiphase flow and hydrocarbon mixtures in pipelines and wells. The databank will build on the foundations of the UK National Multiphase Flow Database already under development by APS. The new databank will serve as a focus within Europe for the collection, storage and dissemination of information. The databank will contain quality assured data, numerical and textual information which will be stored in a coherent format. The databank will provide the foundation for a number of activities involving the evaluation ofengineering design tools for multiphase transport.
