LARGE-SCALE SOLAR HEATING SYSTEMS FOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS

Obiettivo

The project comprises seven different sites/projects including integration of Large-scale Solar Heating Systems into existing and new district or block heating plants supplying residential areas with heat for space heating and preparation of domestic hot water. The sites/projects are located in five European countries (DE, SE, NL, IT, AT). All sites/projects are going to be realized in the time period from 1998 to 2000.
The proposed sites/projects are providing reductions of the fuel input between 20 and 70% and of the CO2-emission up to 90% referred to conventional heating of the houses. These reductions will be achieved by the combination of the following measures :
- Improved Insulation Standard for the buildings referred to national standards
- Application of Rational Heating Technologies (gas condensation boilers, combined heat and powerplant, etc.)
- optimisation of the installations in the houses and of the block or district heating plant
- Implementation of Large Scale Solar Heating Systems
- Replacement of fossil fuel by biofuels

The main aim and objectives of this project are :
- Realization of seven Large-scale Solar Heating Systems in five member states of the EU with a total collector area of 7180 m² over a period of at least 3 years.
- Demonstration of Large-scale Solar Heating Systems for European housing estates.
- Practical use of the comprehensive energy concept approach for real planned housing estates.
- Cost reduction from first pilot plants (systems with short-term storage) in the range of 0.8-1.7 ECU/kwh*a) (investment cost per yearly solar gain) to about 0.4-1.3 ECU/kwh*a will be achieved.
- Cost reduction from pilot plants (systems with seasonal storages) in the range of 1.8 - 2.5 ECU/kwh*a to about 0.7-1.5 ECU/kwh*a will be achieved.
- Reduction of the energy cost of about one third compared to the energy cost for small-scale solar plants (250-400 ECU/MWh in Germany for small systems)
- Monitoring of the achieved results in order to enable a wider application of large-scale solar heating systems in new and existing housing developments.
There are two major large-scale heating applications :
Systems with short-term (diurnal) storage (CSHPDS) designed to cover 10-20% of the annual load, approximately 50% of the domestic hot water (DHW) heating requirements, and Systems with long-term (seasonal) storages (CSHPSS), capable of covering 50-80% of the overall heating demand for space heating and DHW preparation in residential buildings.

Programma(i)

Programmi di finanziamento pluriennali che definiscono le priorità dell’UE in materia di ricerca e innovazione.

Argomento(i)

Invito a presentare proposte

Procedura per invitare i candidati a presentare proposte di progetti, con l’obiettivo di ricevere finanziamenti dall’UE.
