Obiettivo
The retina of mammals is of considerable interest because it provides a compact model for the structural and functional properties of the central nervous system (CNS). The objective of the present proposal is to analyse structure and cellular basis of the retinal functions in mammals. General organization and elementary events of excitation and interaction between retinal neurons will be explored in both mature preparations and during the various stages of the development, while the neural circuits are being assembled.
Detailed information on these processes should provide deeper insight on the overall design of the CNS.
